Addison man arrested on handgun charge

An Addison man who is a convicted felon was indicted on a federal charge of illegally possessing a handgun, federal authorities said.

Mario J. Rainone was charged with one count in an indictment returned Thursday by a federal grand jury, authorities said. Rainone, 54, who was last known to reside in Addison, will be arraigned in U.S. District Court.

He is in state custody. According to the indictment, the gun was discovered Feb. 13 in a residence where Rainone was staying during a search by Addison police. Federal laws prohibit a felon from possessing any firearm.

If convicted, he is subject to sentencing as an armed career criminal, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
