Once is enough for charity requests

In researching our annual donation list I was amazed at the number of requests we received from certain charities.

The top numbers were shared by the ASPCA (10), American Cancer Society (10), The Salvation Army (nine) and JDRF (nine).

Of the 38 others received, five charities sent six, two sent five, three sent four and three sent three.

Now common sense tells us that the funds spent mailing all these requests plus all the labels and calendars could serve these charities better. Most people donate once a year and all the other mailings end up in landfills.

In these days when every penny counts we need to be sure that what we donate is used properly. Most causes are good and we want to help but we do not want to donate so that charities can mail all these requests.
