Highlight reel: Hester returns punt for TD

Devin Hester was the best player on the playground Sunday."It's like tag out there, and he's just messing with them," Bears quarterback Rex Grossman said of his elusive teammate.Hester added to his growing legend with 5 punt returns for 143 yards and a game-defining touchdown in a 20-10 victory over Kansas City at Soldier Field. His highlight was the Bears' highlight: a 73-yard dash up the left sideline in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead. The 24-year-old later sent 59,743 Bears fans into full frenzy mode when he answered a third-quarter Kansas City field goal with a 95-yard return for an apparent touchdown. A holding call nullified the points, but not Hester's confidence."With the players we have on this team, I feel like I can do anything," Hester said with 50 media members crammed around his locker. The opponents thought Hester could do anything, too."Devin Hester is the best in the league, period," Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson said. "As you can see today, he's crazy."Hester bobbed, weaved and broke into the open on two other returns. In the third quarter he fielded a punt at the Kansas City 49, cut back to his left and was brought down by the last Chief with a shot at the 18-yard line, field position that led to a Robbie Gould field goal and a 20-7 lead.In the fourth quarter Hester tried to outrace the Kansas City punt-coverage team across the field to the right sideline, but the Chiefs took the proper angle and guided him out of bounds after a 24-yard return.Hester was like unstable dynamite and all he needed was someone to light the fuse, which the Chiefs did by allowing him to return 5 punts and 2 kickoffs.Despite the constant reminders of how explosive Hester can be with the ball, he only appeared in a handful of plays as a receiver on offense, most of those in the first half."However the game goes, that's going to determine how many touches you get," Hester said. "Some games I might probably not get in on offense. Some games I am. That's what our game plan is and we're probably going to stick with it."One Grossman pass was intended for Hester -- a quick, short screen that glanced off the receiver's fingertips. In a tight second half the plan to get him more involved went by the wayside."We've just got to get him in the flow of the game," Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said. "We have specific things for him. We're trying to make something happen, trying to force something to happen with him a little bit. We just have to get him in and let him play."For now, Hester is comfortable as a return man, one whose open-field moves are being compared to Hall of Famer Gale Sayers."That is a great compliment," Hester said. "Gale Sayers was probably the best return man of all time. I'm just trying to get my status up with him and be classified as one of the great return men of the NFL."
