Thanks to Dist. 200 voters, volunteers
The District 200 community has spoken.
It is Hubble's turn.
On Feb. 5, after over four years of vigorous debate, the voters of District 200 overwhelmingly supported the referendum to build a new Hubble Middle School.
I am proud to live in a community that recognizes that students are "our" children -- not just "mine" or "yours" -- and continues to support their needs. Friends of the Schools, the referendum committee, should be congratulated for presenting the facts in a fair and unbiased manner.
There were no hidden agendas, no misrepresented or distorted information. The committee adhered to the principles of decency and fair play throughout the campaign and stayed within ethical boundaries. The result of this process was that the District 200 community was presented with accurate information about the impact, scope, and financing of the proposed project.
Given these objective details, the voting public responded positively by approving the construction of the new middle school.
Voters may be surprised to know that the majority of the people on the referendum committee, as well as most of the selfless community members who volunteered their time to support this endeavor, do not have children who attend or who will attend Hubble Middle School. These volunteers came together from multiple geographical areas within District 200, proving that this was truly a communitywide undertaking. They devoted countless hours of their time to this collaborative effort because it was the right thing to do for our students and for our community.
Thank you to these volunteers and to the educated voters of District 200 for continuing to put our children first and for demonstrating what wonderful things a community can accomplish when they work together.
