Walmart store remodeled

The Rolling Meadows Walmart store at 1460 Golf Road will hold a grand reopening 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, to celebrate its conversion to the company's "next generation" store design. The design incorporates a new layout, wider aisles, low-profile shelving, enhanced lighting and easy-to-read signs. Aisles will be free of product displays to make it easier to move around the store. Among other changes, the store has an expanded frozen food department, and expanded electronics and home entertainment sections.

Des Plaines first lady hosts lunch

Des Plaines' first lady Lisa Moylan will host her first First Lady's Lunch at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 4, at Manzo's Banquets, 1571 Elmhurst Road. The luncheon is a benefit tribute to Rev. John P. Smyth, executive director of Rev. John P. Smyth Standing Tall Charitable Foundation. Tickets may be purchased for $30 from the mayor's office by calling (847) 391-5301. The First Lady's Lunch has been a tradition for seven years. Sponsorships are welcomed. To purchase raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5, call (847) 391-5301. Flu shots in Mt. Prospect

Seasonal flu vaccinations will be given 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Village Hall Community Center, 50 S. Emerson, courtesy of the Mount Prospect Human Services Department. The clinic could end earlier if vaccine supplies run out. Seniors with Medicare A and B will not be charged, but must bring their Medicare and their supplemental insurance cards with them. Individuals with Medicare HMO, Railroad Retirement, or who are under 65 and do not have Medicare, will be charged $20. Shots are available to anyone 18 and over except people with allergies to eggs; a history of Guillain Barre Syndrome; pregnant women; an acute illness with a fever; or people with a history of seizures/convulsions from fevers. First Des Plaines bike ride

Des Plaines will host its first community-wide bicycle ride on Saturday, Oct. 3. Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan and Police Chief Jim Prandini will lead the Tour de Des Plaines, a 12.5-mile bike ride through the city's eight wards. The ride will begin and end at Prairie Lakes Park, 510 E. Algonquin Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the ride leaving at 9 a.m. All participants must wear a bike helmet.
