‘Pete the Cat’ is fun, jazzy musical for children and families at Northbrook Theatre Nov. 14 to Dec. 6

Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences will present “Pete the Cat” from Nov. 14 to Dec. 6 at Northbrook Theatre, a 268-seat venue inside the Northbrook Community Center at 3323 Walters Ave.

This family favorite classic is based on the popular “Pete the Cat” books, originally written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean.

The musical’s script and lyrics by Sarah Hammond, with music by Will Aronson, draw from the general universe and characters of the books, rather than retelling the plot of one specific volume, Northbrook Park District Visual and Performing Arts Manager Drew Kambach said.

“The musical features an original storyline where Pete the Cat moves in with the Biddle family for the summer and helps young Jimmy Biddle overcome a creative block in second-grade art class on a globe-trotting trip to Paris in a VW bus,” Kambach said. “It’s full of fun, jazzy music.”

Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences productions are performed by professional actors who seek to inspire imagination, develop creativity and build community.

This show is especially suited for ages 4 and up, but audiences of all ages will enjoy the performance.

“If anyone knows how to let loose and have fun, it’s Pete the Cat,” Director Kate Sullivan Coombs said. “Pete’s groovy musical is filled with funky tunes and wacky adventures as Pete teaches us all how to step out of our comfort zones and jam.”

Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at nbparks.org/event/petethecat.

Can’t make it to hang out with Pete the Cat? Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences will present “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” from Feb. 6-28.
