Harper College joins third annual Feed the Need Food Drive
Harper College has joined the Illinois Community College Board’s Feed the Need Food Drive, running through Nov. 30. The friendly competition among participating colleges collected more than 180,000 nonperishable food items last year.
Now in its third year, the initiative aims to combat food insecurity on college campuses and in surrounding communities. To expand its reach, Harper has added collection sites at its Prospect Heights and Schaumburg centers. Donations will help stock Hawks Care at the Prospect Heights Center.
Drop off donations at any of the following Harper locations on its Palatine campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road:
• Box Office, Building R lobby
• Hawks Care Resource Center, D204
• Health and Recreation Center, Building M main desk
• Library, Building F second and third floors
• Massage Therapy Clinic, X105
• Student Engagement, A336
• Wojcik Conference Center, Building W lobby
Donations are also accepted at Harper’s centers:
• Harper College Prospect Heights Center, 1375 S. Wolf Road
• Harper College Schaumburg Center, 650 E. Higgins Road
Below are common donations to Harper’s campus pantry:
• granola bars
• dry pasta
• macaroni and cheese (boxes and single-serve cups)
• soup/broth (cans, boxes, mixes and single-serve cups)
• pancake mix
• cereal (boxes and single-serving boxes)
• oatmeal (boxes, canisters and single-serving cups)
• nut butter
• canned fruit or vegetables
• canned chicken or tuna
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge at Harper and college campuses across the country. According to Harper’s most recent student financial wellness survey, 34% of students experience food insecurity. Contributing to this drive can help address this need and ensure more Harper students have access to the food they need.
