Schaumburg man dies after suffering medical episode before crash Sunday

A Schaumburg man died Sunday evening after suffering an apparent medical episode before a two-vehicle crash in Hanover Park.

Kent Katayama, 69, was pronounced dead at 7:12 p.m. at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The medical examiner conducted an autopsy Monday but the cause of Katayama’s remains undetermined.

Katayama was taken to the hospital after a minor rear-end collision at the intersection of Barrington Road and Tower Drive, Hanover Park Deputy Police Chief Matthew Riedel said. The crash caused no apparent injuries and had no significant impact on traffic, he said.
