Addison man accused of shooting at occupied vehicle

An Addison man faces charges alleging he shot at an occupied vehicle earlier this month in what authorities say was a gang-related confrontation.

Edwin Orozco, 23, of the 1500 block of West Byron Avenue, is charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, one count of possession of a firearm by a street gang member, one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of mob action. All are felonies.

Addison police responded on Oct. 4 to a report of gunshots fired at Lake Street and Neva Avenue, authorities said.

They found a bullet in the rear fender of a vehicle and another in the lower center of the trunk, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

According to prosecutors, three people were in the vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center when the driver saw a man gesturing gang signs at him. The driver confronted the man before driving away to another business in the 300 block of Lake Street, authorities said.

While the driver was waiting in the parking lot, three people approached his vehicle, and one asked “Which you is?” then made a gang statement and hit a window, according to prosecutors. As the man drove away, another person kicked the rear bumper of his car, and several shots were fired, authorities said.

Orozco was arrested Friday. The next day, a DuPage County judge ordered that he be held in jail while awaiting trial.
