Mount Prospect police looking for suspects in attempted car burglaries

Mount Prospect police are looking for suspects in connection with three attempted car burglaries on the east side of the village.

All occurred early Wednesday morning.

Police took the first report at about 7:30 a.m. on the 1700 block of Mura Lane.

A resident told police he noticed articles had been moved around and the glove box and center console were open inside his Ram 1500 pickup parked in his driveway.

Video from his home security cameras showed a vehicle stopping in front of the house at about 1:17 a.m., police said. Three people left the vehicle. One of them approached the Ram in the driveway while holding what appeared to be a handgun.

The homeowner said the offender was seen entering the vehicle and leaving a short time later. Nothing appeared to be missing from the pickup.

Police officers received two additional reports later in the day regarding attempted car burglaries on the 1900 block of Seneca Lane. In both cases, video from home security cameras showed masked people pulling on the door handles of vehicles in the driveways at about 1:08 a.m. They could not get into the cars, which were locked.

The videos also showed the suspects holding what appeared to be handguns.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Prospect Police Department’s Investigations Section at 847-870-5654.

The police department will have an increased police presence in the area.

The Mount Prospect Police Department reminds the community, for safety purposes, not to confront anyone who is breaking into their vehicle. Instead, police recommend getting to a safe location and calling 911 immediately.
