Gary UMC offers class on benefit of trees

On Sundays through Oct. 25, Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St. in Wheaton, is offering “Canopy of Creation,” a class highlighting tree inequities and how you can help, at 10:10 a.m.

Trees are essential to community health and climate resilience to heat and flooding. However, not all communities have equal access to the benefits trees provide. Planting trees in areas that have not historically had access to the benefits of trees is one element of creation justice.

Learn from presentations and speakers about where tree inequity exists in the Chicago area, how programs such as the Chicago Region Tree Initiative are working to correct inequities, and how you can participate in this aspect of caring for God’s creation.

The church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. Traditional worship is at 9 a.m. and blended worship at 11:11 a.m. Sundays. At both services, Kids’ Church and nursery care is available. Between services there’s Sunday school for all ages and a coffee fellowship hour.
