Historical portrayal of Baron Von Steuben coming to Glen Ellyn History Center
Historian and actor Terry Lynch will portray “The Story of Baron Von Steuben: The Hero of Valley Forge” on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Lynch tells the history of the Prussian captain, born in 1730, who was seeking a battle to engage in. He arrived at Valley Forge on Feb. 23, 1778, as a volunteer and was soon teaching the soldiers the essentials of military drills and tactics. George Washington recommended that Congress appoint him as inspector general of the Army. Von Steuben established a strong bond between officers and enlisted soldiers. His teachings and strategies served as the standard for military practices.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St. Admission is $10 or free for historical society members and students. For details, call 630-469-1867 or visit gehs.org.
