Step back to the 1840s at Glen Ellyn’s Pioneer Day event

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society will host its 41st annual Pioneer Day from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Stacy’s Historic Corners, 800 N. Main St. in Glen Ellyn. Admission is free.

Be transported back to the 1840s with pioneers, farm animals and many examples of the triumphs, hardships, and merriment of that era. Participate along with the pioneers in all the activities of the day. An 1860s classroom will be in session all afternoon for present day students.

Farm and home activities are shucking corn, weaving rope, sawing logs, and mingling with Civil War soldiers. Check out the farm animals like goats, chickens, rabbits and a horse.

Two artists will be on the grounds drawing portraits of family members and designing pictures with a historic theme.

There will be two shows by Professor Flim Flam in the history center. In pioneer times, this jack of all trades was an entertainer who traveled by stage coach to villages performing magic, music and stories for the pioneers.

Working on household chores is fun for the visitors. Join in laundry, apple peeling, candle making, and ice cream making.
