Football roundup: Grayslake C., Antioch, Fremd, Maine S., Rolling Meadows among winners

After being bounced by Antioch last week, Grayslake Central rebounded quite nicely.

The Rams (3-2, 2-1) surrendered a 71-yard touchdown pass to Lakes (1-4, 0-3) in the first five minutes. But Grayslake came roaring back with a 30-7 victory Friday in Lake Villa.

“I thought our kids responded really well after a tough loss last week,” Grayslake Central coach Brent Pitt said. “We talked all week about being more physical and playing for each other. Our defense did a great job, and Ken-Ye (Pendleton) and Ray Ray (Wright) gave us some big plays. I’m really proud of how our guys came together and finished the game.

Pendleton ran for 133 yards and a 64-yard touchdown while Wright gained 99 yards and a 67-yard touchdown. Grayson Aliff, who threw a pair of conversion passes, also tossed a touchdown pass to Andrew O’Neill.

Antioch 73, Round Lake 33: Antioch (5-0, 3-0) pulled away from a 28-21 lead in the second quarter to score at least 70 points for the second consecutive week. The Sequoits gained 660 total yards. Gavin Stone rushed for 128 yards and five touchdowns. Alan Sakalowski ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns and Logan Lennon picked up 109 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Patel threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns, throwing both to Chance Verden on passes of 43 and 72 yards. Evan West was 23 of 36 for 380 yards and three touchdowns for Round Lake (2-3, 0-3), which had 519 yards of offense. Devin Powell had 12 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns while Jaquan Jameson caught a touchdown pass. Landras Bellamy rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Fremd 36, Schaumburg 21: Fremd (4-1, 1-0) also rebounded from a loss last week. The Vikings led 20-14 lead after three quarters. Will Clark, Jayden Faulkner and Mateo Ruiz each had touchdown runs for Fremd while Shea Sloan kicked a pair of field goals. Schaumburg’s Dylan Ramirez was 17 of 32 for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Mason Heydecker (10 receptions, 95 yards) hauled in two touchdowns for the Saxons (1-4, 0-1) while Mikey Creaney caught the other touchdown pass.

Maine South 56, Deerfield 27: Maine South (4-1) built a 42-7 lead as Jameson Purcell threw touchdown passes of 16 and 80 yards to Elliott Arteta and an eight-yarder to Nick McCarthy. Keaton Vitel returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was his second kickoff return for a touchdown in as many weeks. Gavin Castellanos ran for three touchdowns for the Hawks while Payton Donaldson ran for another.

Rolling Meadows 48, Wheeling 6: Luke Harvey (12 carries, 244 yards) rushed for five touchdowns as the Mustangs (2-3, 1-0) had everything go their way. Harvey had touchdown runs of 61, 28, 67, three, and 37 yards. Ryder Smialowicz scored on a 22-yard run and Nico Savino had an 87-yard interception return. Anthony Alvarado rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown and threw for another 43 yards for Wheeling (0-5, 0-1).

Maine West 56, Maine East 0: Maine West (1-4, 1-0) had tremendous balance as eight different players scored for the Warriors. Angelo De La Torre, Eddie Arroyo, Ryan Cooper, Ashton Hicks and Henry Nutley each scored on touchdown runs. The Warriors also scored when Davion Tate caught a touchdown pass from Cooper. Bennett Burkett had a fumble return and Joey Marsh had a pick six. Maine East (0-5, 0-1) was held to 54 yards of offense.

DePaul 34, St. Viator 20: St. Viator (0-5) came up short in Chicago. Dylan Molina was 22 of 49 for 216 yards and three touchdowns. The junior connected with Jax Baker and Tate Williams, as well as freshman AJ Pollizze for touchdowns. The Lions’ defense was led by Baker with seven tackles along with Anthony Woodard, Seamus Carnel and Seamus Rustay, who each had five tackles. “I was very proud of how the guys competed …,” said coach Robbie Gould. “The effort and execution were there in the fourth quarter when we could have very easily given up.”

Leyden 28, Proviso East 6: Leading 7-0 at the half, Leyden (2-3, 1-1) scored 21 unanswered points to break a three-game losing streak. Sonny Falco, who had a one-yard quarterback sneak, threw a trio of second half touchdown passes. Falco threw two to Armani Santana of 15 and 27 yards and an 11-yarder to Chris Stephens.

Warren 35, Lake Forest 21: Warren (2-3, 2-1) built a 21-0 lead to pick up their second win in a row. Jonathan Randolph had a 14-yard touchdown run for the Blue Devils.

Grant 31, North Chicago 12: Michael Potempa had a pair of seven-yard touchdown runs and Jackson Fudala tallied from nine yards out for Grant (3-2, 2-1). Connor Evans had a 66-yard touchdown pass to Brody Lyons for the Bulldogs.

Niles North 28, Vernon Hills 27: Vernon Hills (1-4) led 27-13 after three quarters. But Niles North (4-1) rallied for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns along with a conversion run and a successful kick for the victory.

Libertyville 69, Waukegan 6: Libertyville (3-2, 2-0) won its third in row by rolling over the Bulldogs.
