Fourth person charged after fight outside Des Plaines mosque

A fourth person who was involved in a fight outside a Des Plaines mosque last weekend has been charged, police said Friday.

Abdulmalik Ghaffar, 23, of the 9200 block of Niles Center Road in Skokie, is charged with felony counts of mob action and aggravated battery.

The violence occurred Aug. 28 on the 400 block of Potter Road.

Witnesses reported that a 20-year-old Lake in the Hills man was beaten and kicked by men wielding handguns who recorded the encounter with their phones, according to a news release.

A disagreement over money and a real-estate deal preceded the fight, police have said.

After the attack, Ghaffar left in a black Tesla, police said.

Other attackers left in a different car. Officers attempted to contact Ghaffar but couldn’t reach him.

Ghaffar surrendered Wednesday at the police station. He was processed and released, police said.

Ghaffar was scheduled to appear in the Skokie branch of Cook County circuit court on Friday. Details of that hearing weren’t immediately available.

Other men are facing charges including mob action, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.
