3 arrested after confrontation at Des Plaines mosque

Three men were arrested over the weekend after an armed confrontation outside a Des Plaines mosque, police reported Monday.

The violence occurred about 11:45 p.m. Saturday on the 400 block of Potter Road.

Witnesses reported that a 20-year-old Lake in the Hills man was attacked by men wielding handguns who recorded the encounter with their phones, according to a news release.

One of the attackers punched and kicked the victim while he was on the ground, police said.

Video surveillance footage confirmed witness statements, police said.

A disagreement over money and a real-estate deal precluded the fight, a Des Plaines police spokesperson said Monday.

After being alerted to the fight, officers were told some of the people involved had fled in a BMW. Police subsequently stopped the car, searched the occupants and the vehicle and found firearms, according to the release.

Asir Amin, 21, of the 5700 block of Emerson Street in Morton Grove, is charged with felony counts of mob action and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor aggravated assault. He had pointed a gun at the victim, police said.

Faisal Khan, 23, of the 9500 block of Le Claire Avenue in Skokie, is charged with felony mob action and misdemeanor aggravated assault.

Abdulrahim Ghaffar, 24, of the 9000 block of Niles Center Road in Skokie, is charged with felony mob action and misdemeanor battery.

The defendants are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, police said.
