Wauconda to honor 25th anniversary of 9/11 with remembrance ceremony

The village of Wauconda and Wauconda Fire Protection District will jointly hold a ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony, which will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at the village’s 9/11 Memorial, which is located near the police department at 311 S. Main St.

The event will include presentation of colors by the combined Wauconda Police Department and Fire Protection District Honor Guards, an invocation, presentation of wreaths by the chief of police and fire chief, comments by Wauconda Fire Protection District Chief Curt Hanselman, and a moment of silence.

Note: Main Street will be closed between Route 176 and the south entrance to the police department beginning at 7:30 a.m. Limited parking will be available in the police department parking lot. Those who are able to walk are encouraged to park on Main Street, Maple Avenue or in the municipal parking lot at the corner of West Mill Street and Maple Avenue. Visit wauconda-il.gov.
