Schaumburg Boomers fall short against Florence

The Schaumburg Boomers put the potential winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Florence Y’Alls rode a strong starting pitching performance and held on to secure a key 7-5 win at Wintrust Field on Wednesday night.

The Boomers scored in the first inning for the second consecutive contest, building an early 4-0 lead. The first three batters of the night reached base before Anthony Calarco lifted a sacrifice fly to open the scoring. The next batter, Kellum Clark, crushed a three-run homer to center. Florence came from behind and took the lead. The Y’Alls scored a run in the third and tacked on four in the fifth to jump in front 5-4, scoring three times with two outs.

The Boomers (54-44) will conclude the home portion of the regular-season schedule against the Y’Alls on Thursday night. Thursday will serve as Fan Appreciation Night and will feature a fireworks display along with a drove show.
