Youth softball coach facing sex abuse charges surrenders to Vernon Hills police

A youth softball coach accused last week of inappropriate contact with a 12-year-old girl surrendered Monday to Vernon Hills police.

An arrest warrant had been issued Aug. 21 for Eduardo “Eddie” Acosta-Gonzalez, 54, of Hoffman Estates, but he could not immediately be located.

He faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a girl he worked with as a softball hitting coach at a Vernon Hills sports performance center, according to authorities.

Acosta-Gonzalez improperly touched the juvenile on two occasions this summer, authorities allege.

Following his surrender Monday at the Vernon Hills police station, Acosta-Gonzalez was to be transferred to the Lake County jail with an initial court appearance expected Tuesday, police said.

Acosta-Gonzalez is believed to have offered private coaching throughout the Chicago-area, but was known to work most recently in Vernon Hills and Wauconda, according to Vernon Hills police.

An investigation into Acosta-Gonzalez’ conduct began after a referral from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, police said.
