Food trucks, live music and family fun coming to Lombard’s Maple Street Sept. 5
On Saturday, Sept. 5, the Lombard Historical Society is hosting its fifth annual Food Truck Social on Maple Street from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Lombard Historical Society, 23 W. Maple St.
This year’s event will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary while bringing together great food, live music, family entertainment, local history, and community spirit for an evening that has become one of Lombard’s favorite annual traditions.
Presented by the Lombard Historical Society, in partnership with Brew Avenue Events, it’s the society’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds help support the historical society’s mission to preserve, interpret, and share Lombard’s history with the community.
Event highlights include food trucks, children’s activities, live music and family fun.
Food trucks
With eight food trucks serving a diverse selection of food and treats, there will be something for every appetite. The lineup features: The Happy Lobster with lobster-focused dishes and seafood favorites; The Polish Shack with traditional Polish-inspired favorites and hearty street-food specialties; La Humita with flavorful Ecuadorian-inspired dishes; Nexx Flava with Italian ice and other frozen treats; Kiss by Fire with BBQ favorites and pizza; Hippy Gourmet with grilled cheese sandwiches get a gourmet twist; and MxCocina featuring Mexican favorites and street food-inspired dishes.
Family fun for all ages
Children can enjoy big bubbles, balloon animals, face painting, family-friendly activities, and live music, as well as performances by Jay Jay the Clown from 5 to 7 p.m.
From 4 to 6 p.m., families can meet Bluey during a special Red, White & Bluey Meet and Greet.
Throughout the evening, Hoops Chicago will provide an arcade-style basketball experience featuring four basketball games.
Live music
Guests also can enjoy live music when Tautologic brings its eclectic progressive-rock sound to the stage from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Then, from 7:15 to 9 p.m., the Southside Blues Brothers Tribute Band, featuring Jerry Armstrong and his band, will take the stage for a tribute to the Blues Brothers.
Enter to win with the 50/50 Raffle
The 50/50 raffle offers a way to support the historical society while having a chance to win a cash prize. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The winner does not need to be present to win.
Tickets can be purchased online at lombardhistory.org/new-events-1, or from members of the society's board. Last year's 50/50 raffle winner took home more than $3,000.
All raffle proceeds help support the Lombard Historical Society and its ongoing preservation and educational programs.
Experience Lombard's history
While enjoying the festivities, guests are invited to explore the Lombard Historical Society's historic site and exhibits.
The first floor of the Victorian Cottage will be open to visitors, along with the Carriage House and Lilac Emporium Gift Shop, which will be open from 4 to 9 p.m.
Guests can also explore the historical society's exhibit, “Power of Place,” and discover more about the people, places and stories that have helped shape Lombard.
The Food Truck Social is more than a night of great food and entertainment. It is an important fundraiser for the Lombard Historical Society.
Funds raised through admission, the 50/50 raffle and the event help the Society continue its work collecting, preserving, interpreting and promoting Lombard's history.
The event provides an opportunity for residents, families and visitors to come together while supporting an organization dedicated to keeping Lombard's history alive for future generations.
