Bloomingdale police officer’s possible misuse of Flock cameras under investigation

A Bloomingdale police officer is on administrative leave while authorities investigate the possible misuse of the village’s Flock license plate readers discovered through an internal audit.

As the case is also under review by the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, the village said there’s a limit to the information it can release at this time.

“The village believes the circumstances identified to date represent an isolated incident and will conduct a comprehensive review of the police department’s policies, procedures, training, and implement any necessary corrective measures, and evaluate additional steps to ensure appropriate accountability and safeguards are in place,” the village’s statement reads.

Bloomingdale officials initiated the internal audit in response to recent public concerns about the use of Flock cameras, they said.

“The village of Bloomingdale remains committed to transparency, accountability and maintaining the public’s trust,” officials said. “The village will provide additional information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.”
