Schaumburg Boomers rebound with win at Lake Erie

The Schaumburg Boomers rebounded after being swept to start the week, opening a three-game road series at Lake Erie with a 5-2 victory.

After playing from behind for much of the previous series with Windy City, the Boomers jumped ahead early. Alec Craig led off the game with a walk and stole second before Kellum Clark logged a two-out double to put Schaumburg in front. Two more runs scored in the second on an infield hit from Chase Dawson with an error that enabled the second run to come across.

Clark recorded his second double of the game in the fifth, driving home Anthony Calarco to make the score 4-0. Lake Erie cut the margin in half with a two-out two-run homer from Joe Redfield in the fifth.

The homer brought an end to a 21⅔ inning scoreless streak for Schaumburg starter Cole Zaffiro. Christian Fedko coaxed a bases loaded walk in the seventh to account for the final.
