Windy City sweeps Schaumburg Boomers

The Schaumburg Boomers were swept by the Windy City ThunderBolts after dropping a 3-1 decision at Wintrust Field on Thursday night, shrinking the distance between the two clubs atop the Frontier League’s West Division standings to just two games with 15 contests to play in the season.

Kyle Fitzgerald put the Boomers ahead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out solo homer. Windy City starter Isaac Milburn sat down 11 consecutive batters following the Fitzgerald homer.

The ThunderBolts responded with two outs in the fourth on a two-run single from Daryl Ruiz and added another run in the fifth to go up 3-1. The Boomers did not place multiple runners on base until the seventh but a double play erased the threat. Schaumburg put the tying runs on again in the eighth and ninth but were unable to score.
