Father charged in death of infant son in Mount Prospect
A Rockford man was ordered Wednesday held behind bars in the Cook County jail while he awaits trial in connection with the 2025 death of his infant son in Mount Prospect, authorities said.
Kelvin Rudolph, 19, is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death, Mount Prospect police announced late Wednesday.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive 5-month-old child at approximately 1:09 p.m. Dec. 19 at a home in the 500 block of north Elm Street.
The boy was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner later ruled the child’s death was caused by asphyxia due to an unsafe sleep environment, authorities said.
Police said Wednesday that their investigation revealed that Rudolph left the boy unattended in a bed for approximately seven hours without checking on him, which led to his death.
Mount Prospect detectives arrested Rudolph Monday, and he appeared in a Cook County courtroom Tuesday, when a judge ordered him to remain in custody while his case is pending.
Rudolph is scheduled to return to court Sept. 11 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows, police said.
