Schaumburg signs 3-year contract with police union retroactive to May 2025

Schaumburg trustees Tuesday approved a new three-year contract retroactive to May 2025 with the union representing the village’s police officers.

As part of the pact with the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, officers will receive annual pay increases of 3.5% for 2025, 2026 and 2027. The contract, which union members ratified in July, expires April 30, 2028.

Though changes were made to the police department’s recruiting process last year to resolve 13 vacancies among the 119 officer positions, village officials said there were no particular causes of delay in the contract talks.

“Labor negotiations take the time they take,” said Tara Reid, the village’s director of outreach and communications. “We're pleased with the outcome for both sides.”

Representatives of the union didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Specialty pay increased by $500 for detectives, task force officers, school resource officers and field training officers, and by $1,600 for traffic officers, for a total of $34,800 over the span of the contract.

The contract also includes longevity pay for the completion of every five years of service, ranging from $450 after the first five years to $1,500 on the 25th anniversary.

Trustees voted 5-0 in favor of the contract. Trustee Esha Patel was absent.

The new contract will take the police department within eight months of the opening of a new station at 1000 E. Woodfield Road at the end of 2028. Officers have occupied the Martin J. Conroy Police Center at 1000 W. Schaumburg Road for the past 50 years.
