Schaumburg’s Institute for Continued Learning celebrating 30 years

What if your next great adventure begins with a question, a conversation, or a new class? Adults age 55 or older are invited to discover the answer at the Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University’s (ICLRU) annual Taste of ICL and Ice Cream Social Thursday, Aug. 20.

The event from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at The Licht Center of Roosevelt University, 1400 N. Roosevelt Blvd. in Schaumburg, will celebrate the organization’s 30 years of lifelong learning in the Northwest suburbs.

The Institute invites curious adults to join the celebration, meet members, and discover what makes this learning community so special. The free event features an ice cream social and a pop-up library sponsored by the Schaumburg Township District Library, and will offer a relaxed opportunity to explore the wide variety of peer-led classes, outings, and activities.

Founded in 1996 by newly retired seniors and community-minded corporations and Roosevelt University, members have shared their knowledge, interests, and experiences in a welcoming environment where there are no grades, tests, or educational prerequisites, just curiosity and a desire to keep learning. Members teach members, creating classes that range from history, art, literature, and music to current events, technology, travel, science, and much more.

Prospective members are invited to attend selected fall session classes from Sept. 15 through Oct. 8, free of charge, providing an opportunity to experience the Institute for Continued Learning classroom, meet other members, and find a class that sparks an interest.
