Pedestrian killed, another injured after being struck by vehicle in Hanover Park

One pedestrian died and another remains critically injured after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Hanover Park, authorities said Monday.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday on 46-year-old Marcos Garcia of Hanover Park, who was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

A 36-year-old Streamwood man remains hospitalized.

Hanover Park police said officers responded to the intersection of Irving Park Road and McKool Avenue at about 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of a collision between a vehicle and the two pedestrians.

Officers found both injured men lying in a lane of traffic on Irving Park Road, where the driver of the vehicle had remained at the scene.

Life-saving measures were conducted by members of the Hanover Park and Streamwood fire departments before both men were transported to the hospital, officials said.

Preliminary findings of an ongoing investigation indicate the vehicle was eastbound on Irving Park Road from McKool Avenue when the pedestrians attempted to cross northbound and entered the vehicle’s path, police said.

Hanover Park police are receiving assistance from the DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team’s (MERIT) Accident Reconstruction Team, Streamwood police and Hanover Township Emergency Services.
