Child seriously injured when e-bike struck by vehicle in Crystal Lake

A child suffered serious injuries when they were struck by a vehicle while riding an e-bike in Crystal Lake Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 1 p.m. near the intersection of Walkup and Dvorak roads, close to Prairie Ridge High School.

A preliminary investigation by the McHenry County sheriff’s office indicates the e-bike rider was traveling west on Dvorak Road and a Ford sedan was headed north on Walkup Road when the e-bike failed to yield to the Ford and was struck, according to a news release.

The child was initially transported to Northwestern McHenry Hospital, then taken via helicopter to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, where they remain in serious condition.

The woman driving the Ford was uninjured, the sheriff’s office reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
