Schaumburg Boomers blast Mud Monsters with a pair of six-run innings

The Schaumburg Boomers used a pair of six-run innings to open August with a fourth win in the series against the Mississippi Mud Monsters on the road Saturday night by a 15-5 final.

Mississippi grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Boomers stormed back with six in the second, including five with two outs. Christian Fedko tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Cole Smith recorded an RBI single to put the Boomers ahead. Anthony Calarco spanked a two-run double before Mississippi native Kellum Clark notched a two-run homer, his second in as many nights.

Mississippi used single runs in the second, third and fourth to draw within 6-4 before another big inning, a six-run fifth. Jeff Nicol blasted a two-run homer to open the scoring in the inning, his second homer of the series. Banks Tolley also posted an RBI single in the inning as the Boomers led 12-4. Holding a 12-5 edge, Schaumburg finished the scoring with three in the seventh. Will Prater lifted a sacrifice fly and Nicol added a two-run double in the inning.
