Learn about Civil War soldiers’ lives through camp newspapers
On Saturday, Aug. 29, historian Dan Freas, director emeritus of Old World Wisconsin, delivers a lecture “The Organ of the Soldiers: An Introduction to Civil War Camp Newspapers.”
The talk highlights Union Army newspapers and how they provide an honest, unvarnished look into life of soldiers during the Civil War. Not only is Freas a historian but he is also a storyteller.
The talk will be at 2 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St. Admission is $10 or free for students or Glen Ellyn Historical Society members.
