Mount Prospect police arrest man who attacked multiple cars with pipe
Mount Prospect police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after receiving multiple complaints about someone attacking cars with a metal pipe.
Police said the unnamed man, who was taken to a hospital for treatment following his arrest, was responsible for at least three traffic crashes and damage to several more vehicles. Charges are pending.
Police were initially called to the intersection of Rand and Mount Prospect roads at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of man approaching vehicles and “striking them with a metal pipe,” police officials stated in Facebook post.
By the time officers arrived, the man had fled in his vehicle, but not before two crashes were reported.
Police said the man caused a third crash moments later near Rand Road and Henry Street after exiting his vehicle there and attacking numerous vehicles with the pipe.
Officers were able to locate the man this time and arrested him.
Police also reported an officer responding to the scene was involved in a traffic crash. The officer was transported to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Anyone with additional information about the events is urged to contact police at (847) 870-5656.
