Dining out: National Tequila Day specials, Ted Lasso ice cream and more
¡Salud!
Friday, July 24, is National Tequila Day, and the current weather is certainly apropos of margaritas. You can find deals at these suburban eateries.
• The Dollarita is back at Applebee’s. It’s only $1 all day, every day in July.
• Chili’s is offering a $5 classic marg and a $7 Patron frozen marg for National Tequila Day. They’re also featuring the Bombshell Marg ($6) as their margarita of the month. It’s made with El Jimador blanco tequila, triple sec, Monin dragonfruit, strawberry puree and house-made sour.
• On July 24, Fat Rosie’s will celebrate with limited-time Patrón cocktail flights, allowing guests to sample three tequila cocktails served in miniature Patrón bottle decanters.
• Morton’s The Steakhouse is celebrating now through Sunday, July 26, with a special $25 pairing featuring a Patrón margarita and two braised short rib tacos with pickled red onion, sliced avocado and chipotle mayonnaise.
• Twin Peaks is offering a lineup of handcrafted tequila cocktails at participating corporate lodges, including the Peaks margarita ($5), house margarita ($6), tequila sunrise ($7) and Twin Peaks barrel select margarita ($7).
Ice cream is the best
That’s a Ted Lasso quote, not an objective truth (but maybe …). In the spirit of soccer’s recently completed World Cup and Ted coming back for a fourth season next month, Jeni’s Ice Creams is bringing back the limited-time flavor Biscuits With the Boss to scoop shops starting Tuesday, July 21.
The salted butter sweet cream ice cream is packed with shortbread cookie pieces, just like the boss likes it. It will be available in all shops, including Naperville and Oak Brook, and at a limited number of retailers.
Speaking of ice cream
High-protein foods and menu items are all the rage these days, and now Oberweis is bringing you some extra grams in a new ice cream.
Oberweis’ new “High Protein Ice Cream” is available in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookie dough flavors and features 30 grams of protein per pint and/or 10 grams per scoop.
The company promises a product that “is crafted to taste the way ice cream should taste.” It’s available at all their scoop shops and at select retailers.
Vintage sips
CityGate Grille in Naperville will highlight the vintage sprits of BHAKTA, including a rare 1973 Armagnac, during a bourbon tasting dinner Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The limited-seating experience features a four-course chef-driven menu with each dish paired with a BHAKTA bourbon. The night will finish with a tasting of the rare and collectible 1973 Armagnac, a release that received numerous awards including “#1 Spirit in the World” at the 2023 Ultimate Beverage Challenge.
The dinner is $125-plus and reservations can be made at citygategrille.com/bourbon-dinner.
Supper club dinner
Niche in Geneva is channeling its inner Wisconsin supper club for its next monthly themed dinner from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.
The $125 per person, five-course dinner starts in classic Wisconsin style with a relish tray, followed by shrimp cocktail. Butter-poached walleye is next, then prime rib with whipped potatoes. A pink squirrel roulade (amaretto sponge cake, mascarpone cream, strawberry jam, strawberry cake crumb and white chocolate ice cream) will be served for dessert.
The evening will feature Wisconsin-inspired cocktails, classic ice cream drinks and thoughtfully paired beverages. Make reservations at (630) 262-1000.
