Gary UMC hosts summer book and film discussion on ‘Small Things Like These’
All are welcome to join the Rev. Daniel Cochran in a guided discussion of Claire Keegan’s novella, “Small Things Like These” on Sunday, July 26, at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton.
Winner of the Orwell Prize for political writing and shortlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize, “Small Things” is based on the true story of the Magdalen laundries in Ireland.
The discussion will begin at 10:10 a.m. at the church, 224 N. Main St.
Afterward, watch and discuss the 2024 award-winning film adaptation by Enda Walsh, which was directed by Tim Mielants and starred Cillian Murphy and Emily Watson. The screening will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the church.
The church has celebrated deep roots in the community since 1853. It has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. Gary Church offers summer Sunday worship at 9 a.m., including Kids’ Church and a 10 a.m. Special Blend fellowship hour.
