Body recovered from Chain O’ Lakes after teen goes missing
A body was recovered from the Chain O’ Lakes after a teenage boy went missing Monday evening.
The Lake County coroner’s office identified the teen as 15-year-old Brayan Monzanga of Round Lake. An autopsy performed Tuesday showed the boy drowned.
Authorities said they received a report of a missing swimmer at about 6 p.m. near Fox Lake.
A Lake County sheriff’s spokesman said Monzanga was not wearing a flotation device when he either jumped or fell into the lake from a boat.
Friends tried to locate the boy, but were unsuccessful and called authorities. Multiple agencies including the sheriff’s office, Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Illinois Conservation Police responded.
About two hours after receiving the call, divers and an underwater drone device located a body believed to be the teen in Pistakee Lake, authorities said.
