Body recovered from Chain O’ Lakes after teen goes missing

A body was recovered from the Chain O’ Lakes after a teenage boy went missing Monday evening.

Authorities said they received a report of a missing 15-year-old swimmer at about 6 p.m. near Fox Lake.

Friends tried to locate the boy, but were unsuccessful and called authorities. Multiple agencies including the Lake County sheriff’s office, Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Illinois Conservation Police responded.

A Lake County sheriff’s spokesman said the boy was not wearing a flotation device when he either jumped or fell into the lake from a boat.

About two hours after receiving the call, divers and an underwater drone device located a body believed to be the teen in Pistakee Lake, authorities said.

An autopsy is slated for today.
