Suburban man charged with murder in Mundelein shooting
A South suburban man has been charged in a double shooting in Mundelein that left a man dead and a woman wounded.
Deandre Y. Harris, 21, of South Holland, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.
The shooting occurred Monday in an apartment on the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive. The female victim and a witness called 911 about 11:40 a.m. to report the shooting, authorities said.
Mundelein police arrived and found the victims, who lived together in the apartment. Both were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The man was pronounced dead there; the woman is expected to survive.
The female victim told police the shooter left in a black Chevrolet Blazer. Illinois State Police subsequently spotted the Blazer headed south on the Bishop Ford Expressway near 130th Street on Chicago’s Far South Side, stopped it and arrested the man and woman inside, said Christopher Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
The woman was released without charges overnight, Covelli said.
