Mount Prospect giving public a long look at new long-range plan
Mount Prospect residents can get a look Tuesday at the first draft of a new long-range plan to guide village leaders on everything from housing and transportation, to economic development, parks and infrastructure.
The MP2040 Comprehensive Plan will be on display at an open house from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at village hall, 50 S. Emerson St. Village staff will be available to answer questions, discuss the draft plan and collect feedback.
“We can try to accommodate anyone’s schedules, from folks that might be able to stop in on their lunch breaks to people that work from home or are at home, to people coming in after they get off work,” Community Development Director Jason Shallcross said.
Those unable to attend can review the draft plan and submit comments through the project website, www.mp2040.com.
A 30-day public comment period opens in July, and the village board’s formal process of adopting the plan will take place in August and September.
Mount Prospect’s current comprehensive plan was drafted in 2016 and adopted in 2017.
Shallcross said he is particularly excited about the economic development material in the draft plan. It acknowledges the progress in the downtown and identifies potential for further development, he said.
The draft also lays out plans for the southern part of Mount Prospect, including areas recently annexed by the village, and opportunities for residential development at Randhurst Village.
“We’re excited for hopefully some good discussion around the future of the village for the next decade,” Shallcross said.
