Gary UMC youth volunteers repair homes in Appalachia

This summer, youth and adult volunteers from Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton traveled to Kentucky to work with the Appalachia Service Project.

The Appalachia Service Project brings thousands of volunteers around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. The volunteers from the Wheaton church built stairs, repaired a roof and built a deck.

The church at 224 N. Main St. has celebrated deep roots in the community since 1853. The church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. The church offers summer Sunday worship at 9 a.m., including Kids’ Church and a 10 a.m. Special Blend fellowship hour.
