Elk Grove artists paint the village’s history in colorful anniversary tribute

In honor of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Elk Grove Village and the 60th anniversary of the Elk Grove Park District, the Artists Association of Elk Grove Village is exhibiting artworks at the Elk Grove Village Historical Museum.

The exhibition runs from July 1 through Nov. 14. There will be an opening reception and a chance to meet the artists from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the museum, 399 Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village.

The paintings in the show are as diverse as the artists who created them. Some artists reimagined photos from the historical society’s archives. Other paintings are plein air renderings of historical sites in Elk Grove Village and the Elk Grove Park District.

Organizers say it’s a delight to see the many ways the artists have honored these anniversaries.

Affiliated with the Elk Grove Village Park District, AAEGV holds two juried shows a year, in addition to nonjuried monthly exhibitions throughout the year at the library. The exhibitions engage the community through fine art and promote the work of local artists.

AAEGV also hosts monthly art demonstrations by Chicago-area artists at The Pavilion in Elk Grove Village.
