Three Chicago teens facing charges in Mount Prospect shooting

Three teenagers are charged in connection with a shooting in Mount Prospect Tuesday afternoon.

No one was struck by the bullets fired, Mount Prospect police said.

Two teens were arrested and charged Tuesday, while a third was charged Thursday after turning themselves into police. All three are juveniles.

Mount Prospect police were called to the 1400 block of south Hickory Drive just after 12:10 p.m. Tuesday for reports of gunfire. Witnesses told police a Toyota SUV was traveling south on Hickory Drive approaching Cottonwood Lane when the front passenger lowered the window and fired multiple shots into the air from a handgun. Witnesses last saw the vehicle as it turned east on Cottonwood Lane.

Police used automatic license plate readers to track the Toyota to Bensenville where police there located it and took two juveniles into custody before transporting them to Mount Prospect.

Police charged a 15-year-old from Chicago with reckless discharge of a firearm — a felony — and misdemeanor mob action. A 14-year-old from Chicago was charged with mob action. The 15-year-old is being held pretrial at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. The younger suspect was released to their parents.

During the investigation, police were able to identify a third juvenile in the Toyota at the time of the shooting. The third suspect was also charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and mob action after they surrendered to police. The second 15-year-old is also being held at the juvenile detention center pretrial, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or any other information about the shooting is urged to contact Mount Prospect police at (847) 870-5654.
