Mundelein resident killed in weekend SUV crash

A driver killed in a weekend crash in Mundelein has been identified as a resident of that suburb.

Lukas Beelow, 31, was fatally injured about 2 a.m. Sunday when his 2004 Chevrolet Blazer struck a brick entrance sign to the Grand Dominion residential development near the intersection of Chevy Chase Road and West Hawley Street, authorities said.

Police don’t yet know which way Beelow was headed or on which street. No witnesses have been found.

The person who called 911 did so to report a loud noise, authorities said.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Beelow died from injuries suffered in the crash, the Lake County coroner’s office reported.

Mundelein police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating.
