Lake in the Hills home deemed uninhabitable after fire

A house in Lake in the Hills was deemed uninhabitable following a Thursday afternoon structure fire.

According to the Huntley Fire Protection District, firefighters responded at 2:27 p.m. to multiple reports of a house fire in the 2600 block of Waterford Lane in Lake in the Hills. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire toward the rear of the home and into the attic.

Firefighters entered the home to attack the fire from the inside, while other crews deployed hose lines from the exterior. They extinguished most of the fire within 15 minutes, but flames spread into the attic and extended through the roof.

Crews were able to control the fire in about 60 minutes.

Officials said two occupants and their dog safely escaped before firefighters arrived. One homeowner was evaluated by paramedics at the scene for a minor injury.

Authorities said the home sustained heavy fire and water damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
