Mount Prospect buys new home for its Community Connections Center
Mount Prospect has purchased a new home for its Community Connection Center and also plans to give the roomier facility a new name.
The 21,000-square-foot building at 1601 E. Algonquin Road will be dubbed the Mount Prospect Village Resource Center (VRC), or “the Center,” and provide space for the village’s Human Services Department and the Mount Prospect Public Library’s south branch.
The village expects to occupy the building, less than a mile away from its present home, by late 2027.
The village board agreed to spend $2.1 million to buy the building to replace the current 3,600-square-foot center at 1711 W. Algonquin Road. The village will submit a Community Project Funding request for fiscal year 2027 for the operational build out and design of the new location, officials said.
Since it opened in 2009, the Community Connections Center has served residents with limited English proficiency, low to moderate income levels and those encountering barriers to services.
“We are excited to have found a new location in South Mount Prospect to ensure we continue to maintain our relationship with the community,” Human Services Deputy Director Esther Salutillo said.
She said the center will have more room for client services, a larger food pantry, partner agency space, a larger community room space for additional programming and a youth area.
The library aims to increase patron space to include additional computers along with meeting and study spaces.
The library’s executive director, Su Reynders, said the new location will allow the library to grow its collection, welcome larger audiences for programs and broaden access to technology for residents in the southern portion of Mount Prospect.
Additional space is earmarked for a Mount Prospect police substation and storage for the Mount Prospect Public Works Department.
