U-Haul driver who fled crash in Schaumburg arrested after second crash nearby
The driver of a U-Haul cargo van who left the scene of a crash in Schaumburg Wednesday morning was arrested after being involved in a second crash while fleeing police.
Schaumburg officers responded to the scene of a crash between the Ram cargo van and a Mercedes minivan at 10:27 a.m.
After the cargo van left the scene, cameras of the police department’s Real Time Information Center spotted the vehicle with heavy front-end damage on northbound Roselle Road.
The driver fled from officers who tried to stop his vehicle at Higgins and Roselle roads. He continued traveling north on Roselle and collided with a small sedan at the intersection of Golf Road, police said.
The U-Haul driver and his female passenger weren’t injured in either collision. The driver is in custody and charges are pending. His passenger was released.
A female passenger of the sedan in the second crash was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries in either collision.
The road was temporarily shut down during the initial investigation but is now reopen.
