Schaumburg man charged with murder in slaying of woman he was dating

A 56-year-old Schaumburg man faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing last week of a woman he previously had been accused of battering, police said Thursday.

Kevin D. Motykie, of the 1700 block of Weathersfield Way, is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a detention hearing on the charge that could send him to prison for up to 60 years.

He’s charged in the fatal strangling of Katherine Torbick, 43. Police officers discovered her body April 30 while conducting a well-being check at the Weathersfield Way home she shared with Motykie, authorities said.

There were multiple signs of trauma located throughout her body, according to police.

Motykie was found in the garage of the residence and immediately taken into custody, police said.

The well-being check came after a person called 911 concerned about Torbick, who had not been heard from all day.

Police said officers were aware of a recent domestic violence incident involving Torbick and Motykie, and that he had a pending arrest warrant for aggravated domestic battery to Torbick.

Torbick worked at Fox River MedSpa in Algonquin, where staff this week posted a tribute to on social media.

“She brought warmth, energy and genuine care to our workplace,” according to the Facebook post.

“She mattered. She was valued. And she will always be part of our story,” according to the post.
