Lake in the Hills Costco cleared to reopen after bomb threat

Following a thorough search of the business, Lake in the Hills police have cleared the Costco Wholesale at 250 N. Randall Road to reopen.

Police continue to investigate and are seeking to identify the person who called in the threat.

“A bomb threat is a felony that could be punishable with prison time,” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Police had evacuated the building and asked motorists and residents to stay away from the area after a bomb threat, according to the post.

About 3:30 p.m. Monday, officers were called about a person claiming to be bringing a pipe bomb into the store, according to an update posted to the department’s Facebook at 5:30 p.m.

The building was evacuated, and officers secured the area, according to the post.

The all clear was posted at 6:10 p.m.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad and explosives detection K-9 unit responded to aid in the search, according to the post, adding no injuries were reported.
