Wheaton offering native plant sale

Wheaton’s native plant sale returns Saturday, April 25, offering home gardeners a wide selection of pollinator magnets and bird-friendly species.

The event will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the city’s public works storage yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. Trees, shrubs, grasses, ferns and ground cover will be for sale.

Showy perennials such as prairie blazing star, common ironweed and butterfly weed will also be available.

Native plants are resistant to drought and will not harm or degrade native ecosystems, among other perks, according to the plant info packet for this year’s sale.

The city and its Environmental Improvement Commission partner with the Wheaton Park District to host the event.
