Authorities say man led Lisle police on high-speed chase before crashing into streetlight pole

A Chicago felon accused of leading Lisle police on a high-speed chase Monday while armed with a loaded gun was ordered to be held in jail.

Miguel Figueroa, 36, was charged Tuesday with three felony counts, including possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and aggravated fleeing and eluding. He was also charged with multiple misdemeanors and traffic offenses, including DUI.

Authorities say Lisle police attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Route 53 and Warrenville Road on Figueroa at just after 2 a.m. Monday morning.

When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, Figueroa fled the scene, driving on the wrong side of the road during a brief pursuit at speeds over 60 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to prosecutors.

The officer ended the chase out of safety concerns but located the vehicle minutes later at Ogden Avenue and Finley Road in Downers Grove, authorities said.

According to prosecutors, Figueroa had crashed into a streetlight pole, causing the traffic signal to fall onto his vehicle.

Authorities allege that Figueroa attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody. Police say he had bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and he was unsteady on his feet.

When officers searched his vehicle, they found a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver handgun on the driver’s side floorboard near the brake pedal, officials said.

Figueroa is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
