Senior Suburban Orchestra celebrates America’s 250th anniversary at May 30 concert

The Senior Suburban Orchestra, now in its 26th season, invites the public to its annual Family and Friends Concert on Saturday, May 30.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary at Woodridge United Methodist Church, 2700 75th St. in Woodridge.

The concert will commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with a program of music by American composers.

Patriotic selections will include Sousa’s “The Stars & Stripes Forever” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” including a narration of the Declaration of Independence. Also featured will be Aaron Copeland's “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “An Outdoor Overture.” A tribute to Duke Ellington and a sing-along of familiar songs from “The Sound of Music” will fill out the second half of the program.

The orchestra’s conductor, Dan Pasquale D’Andrea, has been with the orchestra since its beginning in 2000, and has helped develop the orchestra into an award-winning 40-plus piece performing organization, which presents up to 15 concerts per year for venues such as retirement homes, schools, and community organizations.

Although there is no charge for the concert, donations are appreciated. A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert.
