Schaumburg proposes $379.6 million budget, including final design of new police station

Schaumburg’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget of $379.6 million covers intensive construction projects for a new village hall and police station, but much of the money for them has already been saved, officials said.

The new budget anticipates $342 million of new revenue for the fiscal year that begins May 1.

The coming year is expected to see completion of the new village hall at 101 Schaumburg Court near November and the final design of the new police station to be built on the site of today’s temporary village hall at 1000 E. Woodfield Road.

Demolition of the purchased office building village staff are currently using is anticipated to follow soon after they move out, making way for construction of the police station during the next budget year.

But the normal operations covered by the general fund are expected to experience a more typical year, Mayor Tom Dailly said.

General fund revenues are projected to increase by 5.2%, while costs are projected to increase 7.6%. But a $10.4 million surplus is still anticipated, helping to support public safety pension obligations and future capital projects.

“The proposed budget reflects a thoughtful and forward-looking approach that allows the village to maintain strong service levels while continuing to invest in critical infrastructure,” Village Manager Brian Townsend said in a statement. “Our financial position remains strong, and we are committed to making strategic decisions that benefit the community both now and in the future.”

Significant revenue drivers for the year include strong sales taxes, increased ambulance service revenues from updated fee structures, the growth of permit fees from ongoing development and the first full year of the village’s 1% grocery tax.

Spending is affected by rising public safety pension contributions, personnel costs and higher costs for supplies and services.

Trustees will review the proposed budget at a committee meeting April 21, ahead of their first opportunity to approve it at the village board meeting of April 28.
