Marilyn Monroe classic ‘Some Like It Hot’ coming to Roselle April 15

Lake Park High School's Film Appreciation Society announces its “Buddy Comedy” selection for the season: “Some Like It Hot.”

The free event will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in the Lake Park High School West Campus auditorium, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Roselle. Run time for the film is 2 hours, 1 minute.

The iconic 1959 screwball comedy stars Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. Billy Wilder directs the film he co-wrote with I.A.L. Diamond.

Curtis (starring as sax-playing Joe) and Lemmon (starring as bassist Jerry) are musicians who are at the wrong place at the wrong time and witness a mob hit. Now they must skedaddle and go incognito to avoid being rubbed out. Since the only gig they can find is an all-girl band headed to Florida, they transform into Josephine and Daphne and connect with Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (portrayed by Monroe). As they say, hijinks ensue.

The chemistry shared by the actors, as well as the deft writing and spot-on casting place this film at #22 on the American Film Institute 100 Greatest American Films of All Time.

Community film buffs are invited to attend the cinematic presentation and stay for an in-depth panel discussion regarding the background and history of the featured film. Patrons will also be able to preview and vote for the film selection for the next Film Appreciation Society presentation in September, kicking off the 2026-27 school year. Also, the winner of the second annual Oscar Contest will be announced.

The Lake Park Film Appreciation Society aims to engage the community in the presentation, exploration, interpretation, and critical discussion of classic cinema.
